July 9-10 Flooding
Katie
Mike Klopchin visited the project site on Thursday, and I reviewed with him the status of the
work. In short, the extreme flooding over last weekend damaged some of the temporary steel
shoring. There was no impact to the Kingsley Covered Bridge.
The shoring must be removed and structures repaired to proceed. We expect this to have an
impact on the overall project schedule. At this time, we do not know the extent of the impact but
will keep you informed as things progress.
Let me know if you or any of the town officials have any additional questions.
You can contact me at office (518) 695-6739 or cell phone (518) 312-6511.
Sincerely,
John Conley

RE: UPDATED CLOSURE DATES

Upon VTrans request, the Town of Clarendon Select Board, at their 11/29/22 emergency meeting, approved the closing of the Kingsley Covered Bridge to take place on May 15, 2023 and re-open on February 29, 2024. The actual project completion date (ie. final paving etc.) would be May 31, 2024.

This is a change from the project schedule originally discussed, but in reviewing the extent of work needed, this time extension is necessary. Construction prices have risen drastically in the last 12 months and VTrans has seen limited competitive bidding on the project. Hopefully, this change in the construction schedule will attract more bidders and result in a more economical construction cost.
